Contactless Smart Cards

1st September 2014rfidRadio Frequency Technology, RFID

Contactless Smart Cards in Low Frequency, High Frequency and NFC are communicating with and are powered by the reader through inductive technology. These RFID Cards require only proximity to the reader antenna to communicate.

Contactless Smart Cards in UHF Frequency band are communicating via radio technology and have different read characteristics.

NXP Mifare Series

In the High Frequency band, RFIDsupplier supports the NXP Smart Card technology. The NXP range of Smart Cards is offering a secure access to sensitive premises and/or data records as NXP offers the most secure RFID solution in interfaces for badges and company cards.

Today app. 1.2 billion people world-wide use contactless NXP Mifare Smart Cards in public transport. Using the Smart Card technology has saved the transport organisations time and money, by increasing efficiency and customer service.

Many Universities and Colleges world-wide use the NXP Mifare Smart Card in facilitating two functions in one single card; student identification and payment system for vendor machines.

MIFARE products are the most widely used ICs for contactless cards, readers and tickets world-wide. Only genuine NXP products can guarantee highest quality and interoperability with all major reader infrastructures in the market.

Unauthorized NXP Copies

In 2013 REACT (www.react.org) and NXP Semiconductors (www.nxp.com) have signed an agreement to stop unauthorised copies of NXP’s contactless MIFARE products. Within the first month of co-operation REACT already successfully removed over 4000 auctions which offered unauthorised copies of the popular MIFARE Classic product. The disabled auctions were all found on Chinese platforms. (REACT, 2013).
In ongoing efforts to prevent unauthorized MIFARE IC (Mifare Classic / Mifare 1K) clones being available in the marketplace, REACT and NXP Semiconductors took additional steps against companies promoting the sale and availability of unauthorized copies of NXP’s MIFARE contactless products. The activities against counterfeit manufactures have been extended to additional monitoring next to website searching. Amongst the measures taken are most effective threats; not only of confiscation at customer’s facility, or at European import customs, legal action is undertaken for damages and lost business against fraud imports.
