Business-Case RFID in Caretaker Services

Caretaker Task RegistrationKey-fob

In 2015 an estimated 70.000 caretakers were providing a variety of services throughout the UK, day-in-day-out. Caretakers have the best knowledge of their buildings and outside facilities. With responsibilities to manage different heating systems, water, cooling, lighting and security systems – alongside numerous assets – caretakers’ tasks can be onerous and complex.

Multitasking Issues

Many caretaker operations are typically registered manually, filling out pre-printed work-order sheets. This information is then sent to the office for further registration into the system.

Therefore, often there are cases of double manual input of data, with many interpretation possibilities. These include: problems with hand written numbers, real time and location errors – leaving space for fraudulent or inaccurate information registration.

Is there a more efficient way to report?

RFIDdirect has developed a system supporting all these tasks and making the data capture and reporting easy. It just requires a set of key-fobs and an Android smart-phone. The NFC reader in the phone is activated and reads a preset and dedicated instruction set programmed into the NFC key-fob.

The App on the phone opens the relevant data capture page, takes automatically data from the phone itself – GPRS location, date and time – and adds this to the manually input data. Additionally, information – like time-tracking or damage reports with photos could easily be embedded.

By scanning another key-fob, closing the App or within given time intervals, the data will be uploaded to the Cloud Application Manager.

How it works

All key-fobs are pre-programmed with an instruction set related to a specific task varying from Alarm on/off to Waste Removal.

Logging in the Cloud Application Manager gives access to a range of reports, showing the tasks performed with date and time and the geographic position. To make the real time reporting even more accurate, specific points/facilities in the environments can be provided with a separate tag. This helps to identify and log the location with data and time for more sensitive responsibilities or tasks which should be particularly monitored.
